pizza crust- yet another v. v. important debate

yet another DEBATE OF SUPREME IMPORTANCE!! this one is a debate that goes on in my very own house, in my very own marriage, on a regular basis: thin crust or deep-dish pizza?

chewy, doughy, deep-dish baked in a cast iron pan?

Or a crispy thin crust baked on a pizza stone?

A crust that is a meal in and of itself?

Or crust as amuse-bouche-style delivery system for toppings?

What say you, dear readers, WHAT SAY YOU?

THIN CRUST FOR SURE! (Actually pizza is just a conveyance for getting garlic butter into my mouth!)

Depends on my mood. I can go both ways!!

It's all about the thick crust. I think that thin crust is a sorry excuse for pizza, it's a pizza flavored cracker. In Portland it's nearly impossible to get pizza that isn't paper thin, which is why we make it at home instead. Of course, I'm Midwestern so my alligiance is with the Chicago style deep dish.

Crust as amuse-bouche-style delivery system for toppings fo' sho.

Definitely thin crust! There is an amazing pizza place in Northampton where I live that has thin crust perfection, vegan cheese, and loads of veggie toppings to choose from...want a pizza now! I like to taste all the goods on top, not just dough :)

Kris- what's funny is that Daiku is also from the midwest, but in St. Louis they go for extreme thin crust rather than Chicago style deep dish! Deep dish is my favorite, and I'm not from anywhere near the midwest!

I used to love the Pizza Hut pan pizza, so definitely the thick crust in cast iron. I think I need to make some pan pizza!

To me, each has its merits.
Thin crusts are what I buy at my favourite pizza places. Even my favourite deep freezed pizza is one with a thin crust (Wagner's).
But thick crusts, - that is home (because that is, what I make lol)*sigh*

So, as long as it's pizza, I'm more than okay with either.
Can I have a pizza now?

Can there be such a thing as a "bad" pizza??

I guess I like a hybrid of the two -- thick, chewy outside edges, but thin crust where the toppings lie. Truly hand-stretched, but it must be baked on a pizza stone!

Thin crust with lots of pesto and olive oil.

Thick crust is too chewy and makes the predominant flavor one of bread, when it should be the toppings that take center stage. Also, thin is kinda crunchy, and I like that. Doughy crust sucks my ass.

deep dish, for sure! but i'm talking chicago stuffed pizza style - yum!!!

Though I personally prefer a thin crust, it often depends on how much filling you're going to put in the pizza. I've had my slice break or the fillings fall out as I'm eating it.

unless i'm dieting-it's thick, chewy crust every time.

I like thin when it's done right, cracker crisp with just a few flavorful toppings. All too often thin crusts get weighed down with too much sauce and go all soggy and horrible.

If I want lots of toppings and red sauce I prefer a thick crust that can hold its own.

Also, I don't know why I never thought to make my own deep-dish pizza at home in my cast iron pan. That's brilliant!

For me it depends on the toppings as well. If you are going with some hearty faux meats and cheezes then chicago deep dish in the cast iron pan all the way! I'm thinking I might need to make that this weekend?
But when it is my usual weekly veggie or white pizza I go more toward thin. But mine can't be cracker thin that is too Pizza Hut Thin and Crispy style and here in Jersey that just aint pizza!

Thin where the topping are, thick and chewy around the edges so I also get breadsticks with my pizza!

I like thicker crust pizza, but not what they call deep dish in Chicago, with the cheese on top and the toppings in the middle. That's too intense for even me.

I'm a thin crust girl myself. Maybe I just don't hold my pizza as well as some others, but I drown in a deep dish.

Thin, but banish the notion of tortilla or pita pizzas from my existence.

I was a hater of thin crust for a long time, until I realized I really can't eat that much crust. So thin.

Thick or thin, any kind of pizza is good pizza.

Whoever is responsible for deep dish pizza in your household should come over and make me some. I have never had it. Please come, I have beer.
