memes! (and a request)

Ok, I've been tagged several times for these memes, and I feel like a very neglectful blogger for not acknowledging the lovely bloggers who have tagged me! Now that my teaching for the semester is over and I have turned my grades in, I have a lot more time to catch up in the blogging world.

The first meme, sent my way by SaraJane of Vegan.Chicks.Rock. is the one where I am to tell you 5 things about myself. These memes are really interesting, because I always have fun and interesting things floating around my head, but when pressed to reveal 5 things about myself, I draw a blank. I will try, though.

1. I will be turning 30 next year. I don't usually make a big deal of birthdays, but 30 does seem like a big milestone. I have come up with a "30 before 30" list of things I want to accomplish before then. You can see the list here. (Your comments are always welcome!)

2. As #1 demonstrates, I am a huge fan of lists and to-dos and goals set down on paper.

3. But I'm also a huge procrastinator, so not all of my lovingly-created lists get accomplished. My procrastination can make blogging particularly painful at times, when I realize that I took a photo of a wonderful meal months ago and never got around to blogging it!

4. I've learned to deal with feelings of blogging angst, though. I'm nearing the 2-year mark on this blog, and if I were to take myself too seriously or make it too hard on myself, I'd never have been able to hang around this long.

5. This idea of being calm and peaceful is going to come in really handy as Daiku and I scramble to finish out the semester and leave for almost the entire month of June- eep!

Ok, one meme down, 2 to go! The second one comes via Celine, a.k.a. the baking genius behind have cake, will travel! I'm supposed to list 6 words to describe myself:

1. Ok, I was going to say "Koreaphile" meaning one who is interested in Korean culture. But, thanks to Google, I see that this might get confused with "korephile" and so I'm not going to go there. Hmmmm. How about "kimchi-lover"?
2. academic
3. grammatical
4. funny
5. neurotic
6. wanderlust-haver

Finally, I was overjoyed to receive this award from two blogs: Hezbollah Tofu and love like a vegan. To think that the brains behind these excellent blogs would say that this one ranks as "excellent" is very awesome, indeed. Now, what I'm supposed to do is pass this on to 2 blogs that are excellent. Well, this is where my request comes in. I feel that I've been a bit out of the blogging loop lately, especially as so many new vegan blogs are cropping up! So I want to use this as an opportunity to familiarize myself with some new blogs, especially now that I have a little more time for browsing them. So, do you know any excellent blogs that I might not have heard of yet? Or are you the owner of a blog that you think I would like? Please, leave me a comment and I promise to visit it! Hopefully this way, the "E for Excellent" award will serve as an impetus for me to find some new excellent blogs and keep my blogging mind fresh! Thanks in advance, everybody.

I like your "before 30" list. (I was the one on the PPK who recommended Falling Water!) I turned 28 today (the 11th) and I need to get my list on! It'll be here before I know it :)

I do that blog procrastination all the time. I have so many photos of dishes I've never blogged! Like some gorgeous crepes, and the tofu I made last weekend.

Hey! Congratulations on the end of the semester! I have come across so many excellent new blogs lately... actually I think I'll go write about it...

I have a few blogs on my blog roll that might be new to you, but you do have a pretty comprehensive list!
A question. I noticed in your comment on another blog that you've set your Google Reader to deliver vegan news. Can you share how you did this? I'd love to do the same. Thanks.

Hi Lisa,

It's really easy, google gives you a couple of options for personalized news. One is google alerts, where you can choose a word or phrase and google will email you every time that word or phrase shows up in a news story. (Some people do this with their names, for example.) But what I've done is through Google news (google.com/news). When you go there, they give you an option to personalize your news, so you can create a section, as I have, to bring you only articles with the word vegan in them. I hope this helps!

Thanks Bazu! Now I have an awesome vegan section in Google News.

Your E for Excellence award is well deserved! Congrats! I love your blog and as I used to live in Ithaca and Syracuse, it always makes me smile to hear about the area! Oh...and your yummy vegan recipes are not bad either!! :o)

You know my son is 22 and that puts me way past 30! (Although I don't feel it - it really is just a number.) You are an excellent blogger. I've enjoyed your posts from the day you started. Agreed there are many excellent new bloggers. But one I've been enjoying is Romina at Vegan Eating for One.

I came by to see all four different kinds of muffins you SAID you made this past week . . . where are the muffins??? My muffin-lady syndrome is eeking into needing to see others' muffins, too. :)

P.S. Love the 30 before 30 list idea -- I turn 29 in just a couple of weeks. Perhaps I should make a list and post it on my birthday?!?

Hmmm.... I'm now 31, so maybe I need a 40 before 40 list. Eeek!!!

Your blog is definitely one of the most excellent blogs--one of my favorites, for sure!

A blog recommendation: This weekend I just went to Tofu for Two (http://tofufortwo.net) for the first time and fell in love with that blog--great content and fabulous design.

Great 30 before 30 list! On my list was to get my nose pierced - I chickened out before 30, but had it done by 32. Though, skip the Bikram Yoga and go ASHTANGA! ;) Or visit Kripalu Centerjust over border in to MA.

I have you on my blog list but wanted to share my blogs:

Dragonbird Sanctuary - thoughts on life as a vegan/yogini/mom
The Vegas Vegan - Vegan's Guide to dining in Las Vegas!

Also, I'm a Rochester, NY native, so I always enjoy reading about what's going on back east!

Ack, I'm turning 30 next year too! I need a to-do list!

Oh, and I totally forgot to send you some info about st john, will do that tonight!!

I am all about to do lists and procrastination also!! ha I should start making my 30 before 30 list too, what a great idea.

You are definitely well deserving of the Excellent Blog award. :]

Some neat blogs I enjoy (not sure if you already know about them or not) are:

And I thought i was the kween of lists. I always make them, so I don't have to remember so much.

I love your list of things to do B4 30, but don't be too worried about hitting all the marks. if you can manage. Leave a little room for magic. You might not do some things--and you might do others that you haven't even thought of.

As someone who is starting a "things to do before I turn 50" list, I can say that the life--examined--only gets better! I woul dnever go back!

I turn 29 this weekend. I like your idea of making a list of things to do before the big 30th. I'll have to give it some thought!

and +1 on the kimchi loving!

Lists are certainly an addiction for me too! I categorize my grocery list according to store. Once, I had all these highlighters out, and my list got overwhelming...Anyways, I never did make a "30 before 30" list, and now I am 31. So...hmmm...maybe a "32 before 32" list?! I really enjoy reading your blog. Lovely photos!

I LOVE your idea for a 30 before 30 list. I'm also a compulsive list maker. I turn 28 tomorrow, and after my party this weekend (which I just made three lists of what I need to do to prep on each remaining day), I'm totally going to sit down, contemplate life, and write my own before 30 list. And may I nominate my blog to be looked at? I'm still fairly new to it and finding my voice, but I like it okay :)

List lover right here. Procrastinator as well.
I like suggestions for new blogs to check out. E for Excellent on that one Bazu. Some of the old favs don't seem to be blogging anymore. Leslie at Eat Peace Please is MIA and Crystal at Vivacious Vegan seems to have made her blog by invite only. I haven't seen either one commenting either. Sometimes I guess the appeal of blogging wanes.
I stumbled on Robin Robertson's new blog. It's only been going since January. Check it out here.

I'm a procrastinator as well! It's easier to read the PPK than write a blogpost, hehehe. In fact, your post just reminded me of memes I haven't done & my E for Excellent award as well!

I'm such a list-maker too. I wrote three this morning. Andy makes fun, but whatever. I love your birthday to-do list. I might do the same, and give myself major tasks since I've got a few years--though I'm sure they'll fly by!

As for great new blogs, Alice in Veganland who already got the E, The Potato Vine (not new, but not on your links) is fantastically leftist and feminist and vegan, and Twilight & Shadow has a beautiful blog with literature quotes on every post. I'm not good at linking things in comments, so you can get to them through my links!

Your list of 30 things to do before 30 is wonderful. I think lists can help us keep focused on what we want to achieve with our lives. Although I'm not that good at writing them, if I've got one I find it incredibly helpful.

...and yes, your blog is excellent indeed :)

it's hard to decide and I can't be much help here. I love your birthday to-do list. I might do the same, and give myself major tasks since I've got a few years--though I'm sure they'll fly by

I also like your 30 before 30 list. I have to be honest, that birthday was a hard one for me and I am one who puts no stock in the whole birthday ritual at all. I think I hid in bed most of the day!

But, to make you feel better, I am a far worse blogger than you. At this point I am supposed to come up with 30 things about myself. I've had the post half completed for a month and I can't think of anything else! Bad bloggers!

I <3 your list

When I got the meme for 5 things, I drew a blank, too. Then after I'd posted it, I thought of much more interesting things than what I actually said. Isn't that always the way? As for the Excellent award, I know you've probably already seen this one, but Vegan Dad is really one of my favorites. Not only is it full of great pictures and recipes, but it proves on a daily basis that it's possible to have a vegan family. And even possible to do it not living near a big city. Lots of positivity over there. :D

Woah, purple broccoli?! I’m amazed I didn’t know about its existence, since broccoli is my favorite vegetable! If I ever see some, I’ll snatch it up for sure!

P.S. I just re-discovered your great blog. May I add you to my blogroll?

Anonymous said...

I added you to my blogroll without asking, sorry! :S I've been reading your blog for a long time, though. I guess I'm really different from other blogs you read but it would be lovely if you can visit mine.
And I'm glad that you love kimchi, since I'm Korean!(Although consider myself more American/Canadian) Do you have any other favorite Korean foods?

I love "wanderlust-haver". Yes! So much fun to learn more about the person behind the cool site. And, it was really fun to see your list of goals.

Jackie said...

Nice list you have but you are really going to have a busy, busy year completing it LOL

30 is not a bad age, I think my 40's were my favorite as I knew who I was and knew what I wanted out of life and had achieved some major goals.
