Have you ever woken up on Sunday morning and thought to yourself, "I wish I could go somewhere and have a vegan brunch"? Well, this morning, Daiku and I got to do just that, and only steps away from our house.
The Syracuse Vegan Society (SVS) held its 3rd get-together today, for an all-you-can-eat brunch (!!) at Funk'n Waffles restaurant. (Read about our first and second dinners) The restaurant is a bright, friendly place located right next to Syracuse University.
Bridget and Tracy, our intrepid organizers made sure the event ran smoothly. We had over 40 people show up- and some people even had to be turned away!
Some of the crowd, enjoying brunch.
Lining up at the buffet.
Behind the scenes in the kitchen.
But enough of that, on to the food! Everyone agreed that it all tasted fantastic:
- waffles & maple syrup
- french toast
- hash
- fruit salad
- tofu scramble
- sausage
- tea & coffee
Here's one of Funk'n Waffles' ginger-spice muffins. (Sorry! I couldn't resist taking a bite or two before taking the photo...)
And here are the pumpkin-chocolate chip cupcakes that Tracy brought. She also baked several batches of cupcakes that some lucky attendees won as door prizes. Let's just say the phrases "tiramisu" and "s'mores" were thrown around...
In conclusion, this was such a fun event! I'm so glad to have restaurants like Funk'n Waffles willing to whip up amazing vegan food and groups like the SVS to enjoy it with! Thanks to everyone who made today so enjoyable.

WOW! What a great event! I am so jealous.
And those cupcakes. Insane. Makes me want to lick the monitor.
How fun! I'm glad your get-together was so well attended (and that you were all so well fed!). (-:
What luck! So now.. how far is Syracuse from Philly? Cause I'm a'coming to visit!
I wish I knew of a vegan society in Rochester! Or maybe I just need to start driving to Syracuse! Hubby and I are kind of in love with Skaneateles...
That sounds like a lot of fun, and the food looks amazing.
Wow - looks amazing!
That looks like it was so fun! and yummy too! I need to search out some vegetarian restaurants in my area. They also have to have some gluten free options as well for me.
Thanks for sharing your amazing brunch expereince with us! That restaurant looks like such a bright, happy little neighborhood place. :) Looks like you guys had a great time.
I've been craving a decent tofu scramble lately. Now that I'm out of school for a few weeks, I might just be able to cook a little bit. Those pumpkin chocolate chip muffins sound heavenly.
I saw some of these pics on PPK. The behind the scenes is cool too.
The cupcakes in your previous post look and sound delectable. I've got to try the simple agave ones. We always make the complicated types.
Oh yeah, I agree... Who Killed the Electric Car is really an eye opening movie.
What a great turnout for your event. The food looks incredible and I love the name Funk'n Waffles! I never eat breakfast so I rarely see pancakes or waffles in person :(
man, Funk and Waffles is the best name ever! Love it. Food looks amazing too. It's such a good idea to have events like this and prove that there's a real crowd of people who want to enjoy vegan food.
Oh, I also wanted to say that I'll (roughly) be in your neck of the woods this weekend. I don't know how far exactly Ithaca/Watkins Glen is from Syracuse (guessing it's like an hour) but I'll be there Sunday night and Monday morning at Farm Sanctuary and will probably have dinner in Ithaca (thinking Lost Dog? ABC cafe? Moosewood?) if you're up for a road trip/convergence of vegan bloggers...hey, we can take pictures of each other taking pictures of the food or something!
Awesome job with the pictures! Thank you for taking them by the way and it is so comforting having you and Daiku there for support and to help out.
I am still thinking about those damn potatoes!
I second what she *glancing up* says. When I turned around and saw you two, it was as if I could breath deep and relax :-)
Thanks for everything
Great name for a place, great food! i love love love progressive places like this. Syracuse rocks!
Why oh why does my town not have anything like this? Funk'n Waffles looks like such a great place. I can't get over those strawberries in the last picture...pure summer!
Apparently we might actually get SNOW here tomorrow.
Totally incredible. Way to go CNY blogging vegans (of which there will be one more very soon :D)!
I'm really jealous! All you can eat vegan brunch sounds heavenly.
Can I join SVS, even though I live in PHL?
You are so lucky to not only have this wonderful restaurant, but also the awesome vegan friends and groups that put on these events.
French toast was my favorite breakfast as a kid, and I only had it as a rare treat. I can't wait till I find good vegan french toast. Oh and those ginger-spice muffins...YUMM!
I'm jealous. No vegan waffles in Ottawa! :(
Wow! what a fabulous feast! Congrats on another successful SVS!! and yes, I wake up feeling that way EVERY Sunday morning! I especially like the behind the scenes in the kitchen - cute apron!! :)
still without computer!
the food looks great i bet that was fun!
oh dear, i wish there were events like that where i live. i will try searching further... everything looks great!
That looks like an awesome event!!! Love the photo of the muffin with a bite out of it. Rob does that to some of the food I try to photograph. LOL
