Washington D.C. : Sticky Fingers

I love my visits to Northern Virginia, because they give me a chance to sample some of the many great vegetarian and vegan restaurants there. (See these two previous posts.) On this latest visit, Daiku, my mom, and I got to visit perhaps the best-known of them all: Sticky Fingers. I don't know why I'd never been here before, because it was definitely worth the visit.

Somehow, even though we were faced with this amazing array of sweets, including a huge selection of cakes and cupcakes, Daiku and I opted to go with savory options. You can see from the below photo that we had a lot to choose from:

(Yes, those red tubes you see are Teese!)

Daiku went with the tempeh chicken salad sandwich. The filling was very flavorful, and punctuated with little bits of red onion and raisins.

I decided to treat myself to a veggie dog. When they asked if I wanted that topped with chili and cheese, I had to go for it. And the result was yummy! Even though it looks really decadent, the chili-cheese dog is a nice, edible portion of hot-doggy goodness, and very affordable too.

My mom was the only one who went for dessert- along with her coffee, she ordered the oat square.

Even though it looked really plain compared to the flamboyant cupcakes and sticky buns in the display case, the oat square was delicious and was definitely an excellent choice. It was not too sweet, and had a pleasant chewy texture with a tasty creme filling. Yum! We had to take some coffee and desserts to go with us.

Sticky Fingers was very crowded and filled with groups of friends hanging out and sharing good food. They also had plenty of take-out options- I wish I worked around there so I could have lunch here every day! I can definitely see myself going back there on future visits, laptop in hand to take advantage of the wi-fi and coffee refills on offer.

Our stay was otherwise very low-key, we enjoyed a lot of home-made meals. However, one thing stood out at my mom's house, that I just had to document and share with you. My mom had picked up some vegan ice creams in anticipation of our visit. My aunt also brought some over during one of her visits. I also found a stash of ice creams on sale at the local Whole Foods. The result? Kind of ridiculous, but also kind of fabulous:

From top to bottom: Sharon's coconut sorbet, Purely Decadent chunky mint madness, Temptation peach cobbler, Sharon's lemon sorbet, and Trader Joe's cherry chocolate chip. It seems like overkill, but when you combine a big family and a very hot summer, we had no problem working our way through these. I was grateful, as always, to have such a thoughtful (if sometimes over-the-top) family!

It's good to hear such rave reviews of Sticky Fingers. I've never tried there stuff, but I send it to my family for birthdays and other gifts. The oat square sounds like something my mum would love!

I *love* Sticky Fingers - they've got the best cupcakes in DC, even better than Cakelove, I think. Next time you're in town, you might also want to check out Dos Gringos and Asylum, both of which are veg friendly & close to Sticky Fingers.

I love Sticky Fingers!
I've only been once, but I had their nachos (complete with pump dispenser full of vegan cheeze sauce) and a cinnamon roll. Total junk food goodness.

I was sad that my last trip to D.C. didn't give me a chance to go to Sticky Fingers. Next time. I also didn't know that they served savory foods as well. Now I really have to go.

I've heard so many good things about sticky fingers... I didn't even know they served savory foods! If I ever get there, I'll be sure to go hungry.

And wow, that is one serious stack of ice cream and sorbet. What an awesome family! Did yall finish it all?

Oh, I would love to visit Sticky Fingers Bakery! I'd happily make the trip down there just to have a go at that dessert case. It's good to know you can enjoy an entire meal there, too.

Seriously, your family is awesome - that stack of ice cream is amazing!

Everything at Sticky Fingers looks amazing! I would love to go to Washington DC one day just to try some of the vegan restaurants there.

How nice to have such a thoughtful family! Sure your stash is a little much, but there is no such thing as too much vegan ice cream and sorbet! I'm really jealous you found some Peach Cobbler Temptation ice cream- how was it?

We did the same thing at Sticky Fingers! We were so excited to see their sandwiches, that we didn't get dessert. That tempeh sandwich looks awesome!

I've never seen so much vegan ice cream in my life.

It's right to have so much ice cream in the summertime.

Sticky Fingers looks like a great lunch spot as well as a place for sweet treats.

Yay, great to see some photos of Sticky Fingers! I live in NZ but hope to go there some day. Seeing a video clip about them a couple of years ago was my inspiration for setting up Angel Food!

Ooh, I really want to check out Sticky Fingers! What a cute shop too!

I have may more ice cream than that in my freezer right now, hahaha! (Having a party.) I am SO sad that Sharon's changed their formulation & added corn syrup! ugh.

Sticky Fingers looks like a fabulous place. Your ice cream tower has me drooling. We're finally getting a Trader Joe's here in November and I'm looking forward to that Cherry Choc Chip ice cream. Yum!
