A few local animal rights events...

There are a few animal rights events brewing up right here in Central New York.

First up, an event sponsored by the People for Animal Rights of CNY:

As a cat-owner, the activities of the group Operation Wildcats, Ltd. is close to my heart. The address the feral cat problem in the most humane way- by arranging for feral cats to get fed and taken care of, and also by paying to have them spayed or neutered. In my opinion, this is the most effective long-term solution to feral cats- much better than ignoring them or putting them down.

On April 17, representatives from the group will give a talk to raise awareness about the feral cat situation and their group activities. (Click on the flyer for more information)

Next up, some of you may remember the first Syracuse Vegan Society dinner that was held last month. (Click here and here for photos!) Last month's dinner was held at a Mexican cantina. Next month...

Trac and Bridget were kind enough to invite Daiku and me as they taste-tested the next restaurant. (We also got to meet Trac's son!)

We are very excited about the next dinner... can you tell what kind of cuisine it might be???

Is that Cuban food? Those empanadas look great. One of the things I miss most about Florida is great Hispanic food -- although it was harder to get once I went veg.

Bazu, that animal event sounds super wonderful. And i agree with you about the feral cat situation and how best to deal with these homeless kitties.

The food looks GREAT...

I'm envious that you and Daiku hung with Trac and Bridget!! That's very awesome. Lucky you two!!

Great to see a very active group like Operation Wildcat. It is so important to get the cats neutered or spayed.

Looks like a GREAT restaurant for the vegan meet up..

I agree that spaying/neutering is the BEST way to combat the problem of feral cats.

and oh my, your norooz dinner looked amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your traditions with us. I love learning new things. I had never even heard of norooz.

Hi guys,

Those of you who guessed Cuban or Jamaican are right on! The restaurant is "Las Delicias," a Caribbean place that serves Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican food. It's within a 5-minute walk from my house, so I've had my share of their empanadas and house specialty, mofongo (mashed plantains). Yum.

I was going to say Caribbean, really! But I don't know what those fried round thingies are. You'll have a nice evening with good food and good information.

What a wonderful solution to the feral cat population. Because we live in the country we see a lot of feral cats. It's so sad because people get a cat or two and it just snowballs from there. It's very rare for a week to go by without us seeing a cat that has been hit by a car.

I love Caribbean food. It reminds me a lot of Mediterranean (which I also love). So fresh and colourful!

I agree completely on the feral cat issue. I wish more organizations would stop pushing euthenasia as the only 'humane' answer.

What a great organization Operation Wildcats is. Feral cats are close to my heart, too. It always breaks my heart to see a homeless, skinny animal--and to see the situation exacerbated by the fact that these critters aren't neutered. Good on ya', Bazu, for publicizing the activities of your local AR organizations.

And wow--is that photo an empanada? *Mouth watering. Drool, drool *

My friend volunteers at a NYC shelter where she helps take care of feral cats. I'm glad there are groups dedicated to the feral cat situation.

Your dinner out looks really good. That's such a smart idea to taste-test the restaurant ahead of time to ensure the food will rock!

What a great group to help the feral cats! It's wonderful what they do to help kitties less fortunate than our own.

Your little caribbean dinner looks fun and being amongst friends, more fun!

The food looks great--I was going to guess Cuban too! :) With all the feral cats around, it is wonderful that people care for them and have them spayed and neutered. We have so many feral cats on campus and they are all precious creatures, and I am thankful that we have a group of people who look out for them.
