Walk for Farm Animals

On our last visit to Ithaca, I happened to see a flier for a charity walk for farm animals, sponsored by Farm Sanctuary. Click this link to see their website. It looked like such a fun way to donate to the cause of the farm animals rescued around the country, some of whom I was lucky enough to meet. Today, I went online to register, and it's really easy. For only $10, you can walk and you get a t-shirt. You can, however, take it further by creating a donation page that you can email to friends and family so that they can contribute to your effort as well.

What is even better is that there are walks happening all over the country and Canada! Click here to see a list of cities with this event. These walks are happening at various dates in the next days and weeks. You can register by phone or online. Grab a buddy or a team and walk for animals! If you're walking in Ithaca, NY, I will see you there!

By the way, Daiku and I have decided to adopt a turkey. When we saw the turkeys at Farm Sanctuary, they had been rescued from awful conditions, but they had such a dignity and you could see a will to live in their eyes. Ok, I'm getting teary-eyed. But stay tuned for developments on this front, which we will be sure to blog about!

Hey! Yay for making your own seitan! It really is easy, nothing to it. Just make sure the broth isn't already hot when you put the seitan in, so it will cook all the way through and be more meaty!

You're adopting a turkey! How special! Congratulations! I'm really loving all the posting about Farm Sanctuaries that has been going on in blogger land of late--it gives me a warm feeling to know that so many people really do care...

Love your blog! See you around!

Thanks for the info on the walk. The one nearest to me is 3 hours away but I would really love to go. I'm going to see if I can make it work.

That's cool about the walk to support farm animals. Congrats on adopting a turkey :) That's wonderful!!! As you know, I'm always looking for the wild turkeys when I go to the metropark near me. It's so neat to see them.

It's so sad just thinking about what the turkeys at the Farm Sanctuary have been through before arriving there. And that is just so sweet reading about you seeing the will to live in their eyes. Awwww!!!

Looking forward to hearing more about your adoption :)

Good on ya for walking and adopting. Farm animals need all the help they can get. I always daydream about opening up a farm sanctuary here in oz (as far as I know, there aren't ANY). I actually just moved over here in May, but I'm loooving it. Keep up the good work, the animals love you!

Thank you for your comments, everybody. I'm touched by everyone's kindness.
Urban Vegan and Village Mama and potentially Crystal, so cool that we're all marching 'together' seperated by merely hundreds of miles! ;-) Village Mama, if you would post a photo of you and your babies, I'd be so grateful!
