because it's still summer, dammit!

Ok, I'm seeing too many fall-related blog posts lately! People, it's still summer until this coming WEDNESDAY. I don't want to hear about your pumpkins and squash and Halloween costumes and hot cider! It's summer! I refuse to give in to fall until I absolutely have to!

So in that vein, a little flashback post from last summer...

What do you do when you come across some insane heirloom tomatoes in the Downtown Syracuse Farmers Market? Like the big buddy above, weighing in at around 4 pounds?

How about a tomato focaccia?

How about letting them play the star role in the meal? Doesn't a nice fat tomato drizzled with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, and fresh basil look so much better than some big roasted dead thing?

Oh god, I am do damn vegan...

Your tomato-chakras are aligned... if it makes you feel any better, it's just starting to get hot over here. Come for a visit in the next month or two and it will be mango season.

Okay, okay, Tomato Goddess... no more mentions of cider and sweaters and what not. Summer all the way!

Wow, that's quite a tomato! The focaccia looks scrumptious.

Well it's a good thing you haven't been to my house ...I've already carved a few pumpkins, roasted pumpkin seeds, and made a variety of apple treats :P

You're a living chakra chart!

It's still in the 90-degree range here in LA, so it not only IS still summer, but it feels like summer. :)

HAHA! Great post, especially the last photo, definitely a winner. Well, if you want summer to last a bit longer, come over here and visit us in Saudi Arabia. It is still in the 110's with 90% humidity...every day...all day....constantly...with no break. I, for one, am more than ready for summer to be over!

Mmmm.. focaccia! I'm glad tomato season lingers on rather than ending with summer.

What recipe did you use for the focaccia? How was the texture? I tried to make some a while back and failed since it was way too dense.

I really like that picture of you and the tomatoes :-)

thanks guys!
sad geraniums, I usually use the recipe from http://www.veganchef.com/ for onion, black olive, and rosemary focaccia. For the tomato one I omitted the olives and put the tomato slices on top. I find the recipe really adapts well.

love the tomato chakras, like, so much.
and this isn't the right post for it, but anyway, obviously --- RAISINS! Chocolate and celery is unpossible but raisins are everything right.
