giving these gems their due

Tonight, I want to give two very special cookies their due. Even though I baked both back in December, they got lost in the holiday shuffle and never got the superstar treatment that they deserve on this blog, so hear goes:

Lemon-poppyseed crackle cookies from Eat, Drink, and Be Vegan:

I made these as part of my holiday cookie baking. They sounded good, but I thought they would be rather mild and take a backseat to the other cookies, especially since they are so healthy (whole grain, low fat, low sugar). However, these cookies had such great flavor and texture that all my cookie recipients raved over them. Fortunately, they are light and vibrant enough to eat any time of year, not just around the holidays.

Chocolate chocolate-chip cookies (with walnuts and cranberries) from Veganomicon:

I made these one night when both Daiku and I were craving cookies (that seemed to happen a lot in December!) I added cranberries to the recipe. We both loved them- soft cookies with a deep, rich, intense cocoa flavor, walnut crunch, and cranberry chewiness- yum! Again, a year-round cookie.

If you're looking for some cookies to bake, I couldn't recommend these two more highly.

Awesome! Ryan has been lamenting the lack of cookies in the house lately!

Cranberries and walnuts really are an unbeatable pair (especially in bagels, by the way). I overlooked the lemon poppyseed cookie recipe in ED&BV! This post reminded me of how good the lemon poppyseed ABC vegan cookies are, so now I'm going to have to try Dreena's! The edge of your cookie is perfect. A sight to behold.

So glad I found this vegan cookie recipe! I make lots of vegan vietnamese food for my vegan friends, but don't know much about options for desserts. These will do just fine. Thanks!

ooh, I was wondering about those lemon-poppyseed cookies! I'm a nut for that flavour combination, and if they really are that lively and lemony, well... I think I gotta try those out!

And the chocolate ones, oooh. Isa is really good at that chewy chocolate thing, eh? They sound heavenly.

Mmm... two recipes I've been meaning to try. I was supposed to buy poppy seeds today actually. Damn! They look so good. I hope you enjoyed them. (Of course you did. =)

I was going to make those lemon cookies today but had no poppyseeds. Now with rave reviews, I want to try them even more. I was hoping you'd put up a photo of those blondies. They look delicious! I also like the X-rated freak product. Funny!

I have to say, I've never made a Dreena cookie I didn't like.

I haven't made lemon-poppyseed *anything* since going vegan... *counts on figers*... 6 years ago. I suck.

I, too, love those V-con chocolate cookies, and I definitely need to try those lemon-poppyseed ED&BV ones. I love her recipes so much, and I haven't done nearly enough with that book yet.

Those chocolate chip cookies are to die for, and made more than one appearance in my kitchen over the xmas holidays.

My brain says - make these cookies! But my pants say - you'll regret it. Hmmmm....what to do?

P.S. Should I be worried if my pants are talking to me?

I can't believe I waited so long to buy EDBV. I just got it today and after pouring over all of the recipes, decided to make those lemon poppyseed cookies (of course, I feel compelled to wait until we've polished off the choc chip ones I made 3 days ago). What a weird coincidence to see your review of them now. I can't wait!

I've only tried the lemon poppyseed combo in bread and muffins, in cookies sounds like a treat!
And you are totally right about the chocolate chocolate chip cookies.. doesn't get better than that!

Cookies, yum!! I finally have ED&BV, so I'll have to try that recipe, at least.

Hooray for more cookie recommendations! I hardly ever buy poppyseeds. I'll be sure and put them on my shopping list.
