is this everything that's wrong with this country? pt. 2

An underlying premise of this blog is that thinking about food can be revolutionary. In this video from
Slate, the realms of criminal justice, business, agriculture, government food policy, violence, human rights and the class system at work in this country are woven together seamlessly. (I apologize for the weird spacing of the video- I couldn't control the width! Also, ignore the advertisement!)

On 16 September 2006, I was blogging about our very first sushi making adventure!

Yikes! The numerous parallels between prisons and schools is shocking!

LOVED IT.

I loved the line...

"A lot of stuff comes from China, the cost of labor there is practically zero." !!!!

Anyone see anything wrong with that?

Word. Interesting video. On the schools -> prisons tip, Foucault argues as much in Discipline and Punish and that was 20ish years ago. Chilling to think that schools are becoming worse than prisons.

Prisons have better nutritional requirements than schools. If that is what the prisoners are eating, I would *hate* to see what is going on in school cafeterias.

I must give kudos to the clever play on words, "cell-ebrity food". Who doesn't love a good pun!

I'm not surprised, just sad.

Wow. I don't know what to think about that video, but... there are definitely many things amiss with the world we live in today.

I've been catching up on your blog... sorry I've missed so much again. I'm especially impressed with the Walk for Farm Animals--looks like fun, and a wonderful way to raise awareness and support!

very disturbing but not surprising.

Unfortunately, Bazu, it's not everything that's wrong with this country. This is only the tip of the iceberg. What a disturbing video.

Hey bazu, u can change the size of the video under the html mode of "edit post". There's a number for the height and width of the screen, decrease them and it will fit in.
