Grrrr! In this week's food round-up, I *wanted* to bring you some cupcake pictures, some of the food that we made this week, and some information about foods I encountered for the first time at VegFest last week, thus concluding the 3-part series.
HOWEVER, blogger is not letting me upload images. I'm not going to rant about the myriad problems with blogger beta, but ... I will bring you the full food round-up with all the photos later this weekend. For now, all I have for you is...
CUPCAKES!
These are the first cupcakes I made from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World: Brooklyn vs. Boston Cream Pie Cakes.
There is a very specific reason I wanted to make these first. Boston Cream Pie was Daiku's favorite pre-vegan dessert. I wanted to make these for him to thank him for being such a good sport about veganism. I figured, how cool that I can make a vegan version of his favorite dairy dessert and surprise him with it!
So here they are:
Coming out of the oven
Cooling
Being filled with pastry crème
And finally, topped with chocolate ganache.
The verdict? Daiku gave these 4.5 out of 5 stars- he ate 5 in just one day! I need to figure out how to use a pastry bag better and fill them with more pastry crème, but otherwise, they were a great addition to our dessert repertoire. We both noticed how moist and tasty these cupcakes were, even without the filling and the ganache.
Have a great night and a great weekend, everyone!

Oooo, I loved Boston Cream Pie too! Those look amazing! I was trying not to buy the book and eat cupcakes every week, but I don't think I'm going to be able to resist!
Bazu, those photos! Those cupcakes! Aaa!!! They look SO good!! Why did they not getht e full 5 stars? Was it due to the need for a bit more filling inside?
What a sweet idea to make those for him, since they were his pre-vegan favorite! :) They really look great. I don't know if I can make them though because I cannot fit in my clothes if I eat 5 cupcakes per day! Lol!
That picture of them cooling...wow. Should be in a magazine! Isa would be proud!!!! I think she rubbed off on you!
yes, I agree with Candi... your photos are beautiful!!! Very enticing.
by the way Bazu, have you heard of an art magazine called "Bidoun"? I know it's off the topic of veganism, but it's my favorite art mag. It centers on artist working in the middle east or middle eastern artists working around the world. I tell all my art buds about it, but thought it might especially be of interest to you.
:) AMey
The cupcakes look awesome!
Hey wow! Those look great. I can't believe I've had the book for 2 weeks and haven't made a single cupcake. I really need to get on that.
They look magnificent, Bazu. I don't blame Daiku for snarfing down 5. I would have eaten them all.
I have a love-hate relationship with Blogger.
Oh man, how much do I want one of those cupcakes?! I made brownies today, but I'd gladly trade!
:D
Ps Blogger messed up for me all afternoon as well!
So jealous!!! My copy of the book is being shipped from the states because for some weird reason there are no copies of this book in Canada! how freakin' weird... Those look yum!!!!
I totally need to get my copy of vegan cupcakes take over the world. These look absoluetly devine!
This looks amazing. I must get to using the oven (and buying the book). Wonderful post.
Those look so good! I was always very anti-Boston cream anything because I always hated custard. It was sad because I enjoyed the other elements...especially the chocolate. :)
Those cupcakes look great! Love the step by step photos. I'm going to have to get that cookbook.
Those cupcakes look fantastic!!!! I don't blame Daiku for eating 5 in one day. They look scrumptious. Yum!!!!!
I was very frustrated to see all the cupcake posts and not being able to find this book in Canada either. But lo and behold!! Chapters.ca has it finally.
Bazu, those Boston Cremes look crazy delicious. 4.5 out of 5 is a pretty good rating I'd say. Keep 'em coming!
I am back on line at last. Thanks for the visit while I was away.
Those cupcakes look fabulous. They are so perfect looking and I can just imagine how wonderful they tasted....Daiku must have been in 7th heaven.
Thank goodness for the chimp project. Our baboons are taken from the wild to the labs of Europe. It is disgusting....the confinement in cages in itself must be torture never mind what those vile so called medical personnel do to them on top of it.
Cupcakes so make my day! Steph has some tonight that we are frosting :D
DROOL! I've been resisting the book, but I need it! I guess I could start going to the gym to make up for it! Those look amazing, and the cupcakes themselves look so light and fluffy!
